The PSP Go is a pretty good version to play with original hardware on the go, as it is the smallest version of the console. It has however 2 mains drawbacks : its limited internal storage (16 GB) and its display which has no protective layer and so tends to be scratched. The storage can be expanded with memory stick duo, but its not cheap and limited in terms of space. The best way is to use a microSD adapter. As for the display, it can be replaced by brand new one for a few bucks.
This is my short feedback on both screen replacement and storage expansion…
Display replacement
The replacement is not that trivial comparing to others PSP models, but it is very well documented on iFixit: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/PSP+Go+Display+Replacement/1188
I just followed the guide, however I noted two things :
- Between step 1 and 2 : I had to remove the skrews on the top (left photo), then remove the top cover. This cannot be done in step 3 because the back cover is also skrewed on top
- The display I purchased had no glue and no adhesive. But if correctly aligned, it is well sanditched and it does not move at all. It just makes plugging it a bit tricky.
Storage expansion with microSD
Memory stick micro to MicroSD adapter can be found easily on the internet, I got mine on Etsy. I recommend to choose an already soldered model so the installation can be done in a few seconds for a not so higher price. The whole adapter can be fixed inside the console, but the space is very limited.
It is then required to format the “Memory stick”. In my case 119Gb free space, that’s enought to host more than 100 games 🙂
