Some time ago, I wrote about my modded Neo Geo Pocket color with an IPS Display. This mod brings the console’s screen to today’s standards. However, this new display needs a lot of juice and sometime it does not turn on if the batteries are not charged enought. The question is : how many time the batteries last with this new display ?
The original Neo Geo Pocket color last about 40 hours with two AA batteries. Let’s test that with the IPS Display…
Test conditions
The batteries I used for the test are a pair of AA NiMH 2400 mAh (Amazon Basics) batteries which already had about 15 recharge cycles. I have fully charged them before the test.
The game I used is an original cartridge : Puzzle Link. I chose this game because it plays some differents demos with animations and musics without touching anything. Using a flashcart is near impossible as the display turns off after about 30 minutes.
The sound volume was at about half level. Note that I stopped the test before the console turned completly off because unlike the bakcklit Game Boy Pocket, the Neo Geo Pocket Color was still running, but the screen was flickering (off/on/off/on) and the game was reseting in loop. This was probably due to the batteries not delivering enought power anymore.
